Lobster Rescue

Interesting geology at the Point, Port St. Mary

While out taking photos down the Point one Sunday, I happened upon a frayed rope floating in the sea not too far from the bedrock's edge. Feeling curious, I thought I'd venture to find what was at its end. After emptying my pockets in preparation of an accidental dip, I scrambled down some rocks and, after several ineffective reaches, managed to grab it and hauled it skyward. On its end? A lobster pot! With a lobster and a crab in it, no less! The lobster earned his freedom in exchange for some modelling shots, but the crab steadfastly refused to let go of the pot's metal rungs. Stupid crab. I think the fisherman I phoned to pick up the pot probably ate him. Aw.

Going through some old scans, I found these shots I took at her birthday party. She was firedancing without the fire, but the bonfire reflected off the staffs and created beautiful patterns through slow handheld exposures. The shot of her fairy-like on Rachel's knee is one of my favourite photographs. I had originally presented these as square crops, but thought I'd revisit the originals and see how they looked. I think (hope) they work.
